Benihana is an American-Japanese teppanyaki restaurant chain with over 70 US locations, celebrated for its theatrical hibachi-style cooking where trained chefs prepare meals on a large iron griddle at the center of each table, entertaining guests with knife tricks, flying shrimp, and onion volcanoes. Founded in New York City in 1964 by Rocky Aoki, Benihana helped introduce Japanese teppanyaki dining to American audiences and pioneered the communal dining-as-entertainment experience.
